Amazing Father (Father’s Day)

Once again Father’s Day is with us.
How fascinating it would be to exchange our different memories about our dads. There would be plenty of interesting stories to tell and feelings to share.
Think about your Dad? What is, or was, he like? How would you describe him? How does he, or did he treat you? Would you describe him as warm, friendly, and loving or perhaps more distant and uncaring? Always available and approachable or perhaps difficult to deal with?
On Sunday we will be delving into the amazing heart of God, our heavenly Father but at one and the same time the Father of Jesus. Have you ever thought about the possibility that He may have had divided loyalties? Consider this for a moment. Could you as a parent, a dad or mum, who loves your child, if he or she were in a desperate situation, ever knowingly and willingly abandon them, turn you back on them? I’m sure you would answer with a resounding ‘No!”
And yet, as Jesus suffered that brutal and terrible suffering on the cross it seems that God, the loving Father of Jesus, did just that. “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” was Jesus’ lonely cry.
What exactly was going on there on Calvary on Good Friday?
Come along on Sunday as we explore this question and reveal the wonderful but also heart-rending decision God chose to make on our behalf.

GSPV Finance Update
The following is an update on our finances for GSPV to 31st July 2023.
In the budget approved at our Half Yearly meeting in November 2022 we provided for annual offerings and donations of $450,000. To 31st July we planned to have received $262,885.
As of 31st July 2023, our donations were $226,564, a shortfall of $35,000, against our planned budget.
Our overspend to 31st July 2023 is now only $2,010.
The good news is that our offerings have increased in June and July to help bring us back to a balanced budget for the year to date. As we have not yet been able to secure a Pastor nor employ a planned Lay Worker our year-to-date expenditure is down on the budget plan. Thank you to all of those people who have prayerfully reviewed their giving and increased their commitment.

Community Lunch
The Meet and Eat Team invites you to a lunch on Sunday 17th September after the 10.30am service, in the church hall.
For over 7 years Pathway, our Baptist friend up the road, has been supplying tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of food so we can feed our guests on Monday nights.
We would like to raise some money and donate all of it to Pathway to help pay for its ever-present transport and electricity costs.
On the menu we have a number of soups with various breads, hot dogs and a list of fillings including sauerkraut, beetroot relish, mustard and on course tomato sauce. For a gold coin or note donation.
We’d love to see y’all there to have a good feed and to support our friends who do so much for us.

Operation Christmas Child
What a great response last Sunday. Seventy-five boxes were distributed with people wanting more. Extra boxes have been sourced and will be available from the foyer after both services on Sunday. The deadline to return boxes is Sunday, 22nd October. On this Sunday they will be blessed, and prayers will be offered that will be a blessing to those receiving them as well as their families. Boxes can be returned before 22nd October and will be stored safely at church. They can be dropped into the church office during office hours or brought to the church services on Sunday and left on the high table in the foyer by the exit door.
What a blessing these will be to many young people and families around the world. What a great feeling!!

Again over 40 bags of goods were donated. These were crammed full of all goods that were requested for this month. On behalf all those receiving support we say a big thank you.

Growing Faith at Home
What does it mean to ‘take up your cross and follow Jesus’? This week’s GFH resource shares some ideas about this. Here are a couple of questions to chat over with your family or small group. What is something you find difficult to do? What makes it so? Why do people wear crosses? God bless your week everyone!
KAPS – Save the date Sunday 24th September!!
We had a great time on Sunday… letting our creativity flow! There was painting, weaving, and printing! Special thanks to Jacqui Morton for her artistic expertise, as well as Mrs. Shields, who did some behind the scenes preparation for our canvas print. (The print is up in the Parenting Room along with some other photos from the afternoon. Why not have a look?) Thanks also to the dedicated team who help organize KAPS events and make them happen. After our artistic activities we gathered for a ‘Creativity themed’ worship service. The afternoon finished with conversation and a shared meal. We would love to see you at our next KAPS event coming up on 24th September. More information to follow.

Do you like to cook?
From time to time, we have the opportunity to help out families in need of a meal or two. School Snippets
On Tuesday morning, senior students and teachers from our school went to Endeavour for the morning. We joined together with some students and staff from St Paul Lutheran, Golden Grove Lutheran and Endeavour for our Connected Schools Worship service and morning tea. Our Good Shepherd student leadership team assisted in running the service. We were reminded that we are indeed ‘better together’. Linking with the theme, the Year 4 student artwork (of beehives) were on display. These were created at a prior art workshop run at Endeavour.
On Wednesday morning, Good Shepherd’s Curiosity Early Learning Centre ushered in Father’s Day by welcoming 48 of their special dads, uncles, Godfathers, and grandpas for a time to ‘come and play’. The morning was filled with building, painting, construction, storytelling, performing and singing. The fun was topped off with fresh coffee, croissants, brownies, and chocolate!
If you would like to find out more of what is happening at school, you are also welcome to click on the link to our newsletter: https://inewsletter.co/J1WDLx/latest Of course, a printed copy is available in the café area and I am happy to arrange your own copy if you would like!
Wednesday Worship
We continued our ‘G.O.A.T’ theme (that’s ‘Greatest of All Time’). This week’s focus was ‘The greatest Shepherd of all time- Jesus’. Please have a look at this week’s devotion for an overview of what was shared. We would love to see you at our Wednesday Worship and coffee next week. Same time as usual… 8:50am! Pastor Rolly will be sharing the message! Love to see you soon!
