An Adventurous Journey

Transitions can be challenging. Change often is. Shifting house or school, farewelling a stage of life or even a loved one, or facing obstacles that stretch us, all involve a transition. As difficult as these situations are, they are at least obvious dilemmas. The most challenging transitions are those that may involve a mindset shift, an expansion in our thinking, or facing the opportunity to step out when we’d rather draw back. Peter may have eventually sunk after he walked on water, but at least he stepped out. How comforting for the early believers—and us—to look back on this and know that not only is Jesus with us in the storm, but when we step out, he’s standing there right beside us, reaching down, and restoring us all. It’s emboldening to realise what you can face when you know Jesus is there with you.

Friends of Gideons Notice
Here’s a wonderful way to help you share your faith: OFFER SOMEONE A GIDEON NEW TESTAMENT!
Good Shepherd Church is a Friend of Gideons and has paid for New Testaments to be available for you to take, then pray for God to prepare someone to accept it, read it and come to faith. Pray you will have courage and wisdom to be used by God in this way.
Visit by Bishop Mathias Daeli
At the second service this Sunday Bishop Mathias Daeli will be visiting our congregation. He is Bishop in Siantar, Indonesia. He is one of 13 Bishops of the Lutheran Church Indonesia who are visiting Adelaide. As many of the 13 Bishops are new to their position it was decided it would be beneficial for them to visit Australia as the Lutheran Church partners with the church in Indonesia. They will be attending seminars at the Seminary and attending church services to experience a variety of worship styles. Make him feel welcome!

The Karaoke Night held last Saturday night was a great success enjoyed by those who attended. It raised $2300 for the Family Hub at Ingle Farm. They were very excited at receiving this news as it will enable them to continue and improve the services that they offer families in the local area. Special thank you to Joan Mc Carthy for organizing the event, the Family Hub Support Team for their tireless involvement, Craig and Val King for donating their time and expertise as DJ’s, our auctioneer Graeme Tscharke and all who attended to make it such a good evening. Great team effort all around.

Growing Faith at Home
Today’s GFH title is ‘Jesus has the Power to Help and Save’. It shares the story of when Jesus rescued Peter out on a stormy lake! Peter was actually walking on water toward Jesus when he started to sink. Jesus rescued him of course. The bible says that when he (Peter) saw the wind, he was afraid… (See Matthew 14:30) It can be difficult to keep our peace and our eyes on Jesus when difficult circumstances are buffeting us… But Jesus doesn’t abandon us! Here are some questions to ponder with people you connect with: What are some of the difficult things you are facing at the moment? What are you doing to keep your focus on Jesus while this is going on? Have a look at this week’s resource for some other things to consider!
