Breaking News: The Empty Tomb!

Breaking News: The Empty Tomb!

Could you imagine a News team giving a report on the first Easter Sunday? Who might they interview? And what might come to light?

What about one of the guards who had been assigned to the sealed tomb? Would he have actually revealed that he had been paid off to spread the word that the disciples had come in the night and stolen Jesus body? (See Matthew 28:11-25)

Perhaps Mary Magdalene with her stunning account of finding the stone rolled away, talking with angels and then Jesus himself who she first thought to be a gardener? (John 20:11-18)

Would they have found Thomas, one of Jesus closest friends, and interviewed him? Would Thomas have shared his disbelief with them, distancing himself from what he thought was the ‘fake news’ going around? Would he have shared that he wouldn’t believe unless he saw Jesus with his own eyes and touched the nail wounds in his hands? (John 20:24-29)

Maybe they might interview Cleopas who was on his way to Emmaus, when he and his friend met Jesus and had an intriguing conversation with him. (Luke 24: 13-35)

What if they interviewed Jesus himself?

Would Jesus have simply shared something that he had already said to Nicodemus long before any of the events of Easter even happened?

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world though him. John 3:16,17 (NLT)

Jesus’ death and resurrection is news that breaks into our very own lives.

He has taken our sin on himself, he suffered and died for it. He also rose again, victorious over death and all that separates us from our Loving God.

The life changing, ‘Breaking News’ is that Jesus offers us a fresh start. We can live our lives forgiven, released from our sin, guilt and shame, back in relationship with God through Jesus! This is Easter News worth sharing and celebrating!

Happy Easter everyone!

God bless,

Georgie
