Come As You Are

Come As You Are

We had Eve Ormsby from Endeavour College join us for worship this week. Eve got us thinking about the things in our life that weigh us down. She then represented these things by writing them on water bottles and placing them in a backpack worn by one of our year 6 student. Our theme to start the year is ‘Come as you are’, with this week’s focus on anger. Eve spoke about some different ways we act and treat others when we are angry. The students were also able to come up with some great examples.

Eve then reminded us of the love that God has for us, and His willingness to help us and to share the load. Matthew 11:28-30 says:

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (NLT)

Eve finished by doing a magic trick, representing the power of God’s forgiveness and His ability to take away anything in our lives that weighs us down. Eve had a piece of paper in the shape of a cross, which reminds us of God’s love and His sacrifice. She then lit the paper on fire, causing it to disappear in a big flame right before the eyes of 450 disbelieving students.

Thank you, Eve for a great reminder!
