Considering the Cost – Luke 8:40-56

Considering the Cost – Luke 8:40-56

Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. ~Luke 8:47

We are all subconsciously influenced and distracted in different ways by many things in life. Our close family, our friends, the tv screen, social media even the billboard ad on the bus shelter that we pass regularly.

Have you ever wanted something soooo much that you have done the impossible or gone against the apparent morals of society to achieve it?  It appears as if the woman in this text did this despite the repercussions from the authorities and the village, she was living in.  She didn’t really have any options left?  The influence of the crowd and the authorities in this encounter were no match for the faith and desperation that was displayed when just a touch of the clothing of Jesus changed her life.

Do we consider the cost, when we don’t reach out to just touch the life of those around us so they get a feel of the clothing of Jesus?

Due to recent world events I find myself more and more wanting to physically catch up with friends and family rather than just a text message, Facebook post or even a phone call. To achieve this, whenever anyone indicates that we should catch up I have made a point of getting my diary out straight away and try to organise it. Sometimes this comes at a cost to what I want.

Getting what we want comes at a cost.  Do we choose the cost of earthly trappings or the cost of an eternal life with Jesus?  Choose wisely as you may only have one chance.

Prayer

Lord, walk close to me so I can be touched by your constant reach.  Help us to reach out to others so they may experience your healing touch as well. Help us to choose wisely and not be influenced by what is not eternal.
