Forgiveness from God

Reading: Psalm 51:1-12
1-3 Generous in love—God, give grace! Huge in mercy—wipe out my bad record. Scrub away my guilt, soak out my sins in your laundry. I know how bad I’ve been; my sins are staring me down.(MSG)
Previously I worked with people with different abilities, many having physical, mental needs, and acquired brain injuries. This work allowed these people to be involved as part of our community. I loved this work as it was a very humbling experience. I would take them on outings to interact with the public. Many a time I felt as if I was walking in their shoes. Nearly every time it saddened me, listening to many comments of judgement and hurts other people would say about these people without knowing their story. Then I think of my own self, of how quick I make judgement of people in different situations without knowing what is going on in their lives. I need to refocus and confess my sins to God.
When we gossip, or spit out angry words, or insult or hurt other people in any other way, we sin against God.
In this psalm we confess that we haven’t been the kind of person God wants us to be. We also need to confess that only God can make us the kind of people He wants us to be.
Prayer
God, create a pure heart in me, and renew a right attitude within me. Do not cast me from your presence; do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and let a willing attitude control me. Amen.
