Jesus’ Witnesses to The World

Jesus’ Witnesses to The World

Hope. With all of the change, pressures, and challenges we face in life we are all in need of hope. Thankfully Jesus offers us and the whole world hope. With Australia becoming more multicultural – 30% born overseas, 50% have a parent born overseas – there are many from all over the world looking for the hope we have in Jesus Christ. Thankfully the Holy Spirit is with us to empower and guide us to be Jesus’ witnesses. Witnesses to the hope of Jesus Christ.

Messages of Hope continues to reach out to millions of people in Australia and New Zealand on more than a thousand radio stations including 1079 Life, SEN, FlowFM, and many other commercial and community radio stations. People are being inspired with this hope on Messages of Hope social media too. There are videos, podcasts, and booklets and much more available for you and people you care about at messagesofhope.org.au.

GSPV Finance Update

The following is an update on our finances for GSPV to 31st July 2023.

In the budget approved at our Half Yearly meeting in November 2022 we provided for annual offerings and donations of $450,000. To 31st July we planned to have received $262,885.

As of 31st July 2023, our donations were $226,564, a shortfall of $35,000, against our planned budget.

Our overspend to 31st July 2023 is now only $2,010.

The good news is that our offerings have increased in June and July to help bring us back to a balanced budget for the year to date. As we have not yet been able to secure a Pastor nor employ a planned Lay Worker our year-to-date expenditure is down on the budget plan. Thank you to all of those people who have prayerfully reviewed their giving and increased their commitment.

Community Lunch

The Meat and Eat Team invites you to a lunch on Sunday 17th September after the 10.30am service, in the church hall.

For over 7 years Pathway, our Baptist friend up the road, has been supplying tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of food so we can feed our guests on Monday nights.

We would like to raise some money and donate all of it to Pathway to help pay for its ever-present transport and electricity costs.

On the menu we have a number of soups with various breads, hot dogs and a list of fillings including sauerkraut, beetroot relish, mustard and on course tomato sauce. For a gold coin or note donation.

We’d love to see y’all there to have a good feed and to support our friends who do so much for us.

Thank you for your continued support of Lutheran Care Family Zone through Drakes Community Dollars. Raised in last 6 months – $680 – the most ever!

Kerry McGrath, Manager at Family Zone, sent the following:

The money will continue to support the programs we deliver at Family Zone this term, including Dad’s Matter, Being with Baby, Men’s Support Hub, Neurodiversity Support Group, Child Development Creches, Conversational English Class and our new program -Cooking from the Heart.

The money allows us to provide food to families to ensure they are in the best place to learn – with bellies full, allowing them to concentrate. It also provides food fresh fruit for the children and families attending our playgroups. Any spare money will be used to provide morning teas/lunches to our Volunteers – whom without, our doors would struggle to stay open.

If you shop at a Drakes Supermarket, please scan your “Drakes Tag” or “myDrakes App” each time you shop (before you pay) as from little things big things grow!
With humble thanks.

Spill Kits

Reminder two spill kits are available for use in emergency cases where someone has vomited or perhaps become incontinent resulting in involuntary soiling of an area. The kits are in a black bucket with ‘Spill Kit” clearly marked in white on the bucket and lid.  Buckets are located in the ladies’ air locker first cupboard to the right on entry and in the very rear store wooden shelving on the left behind the kitchen.  Please notify the office if you have used one of the kits so they can be replenished and returned to use.

School Snippets

One of the highlights of the week was this morning’s (Friday) Book Week parade! Creativity was on full display as children coordinated their costumes with their favourite book! It was lovely to see all the smiling faces… Wednesday Worship was another highlight. Mrs Claudia Deanshaw introduced our new theme G.O.A.T (that is ‘Greatest of all time’). We began with ‘The greatest human of all time- Jesus’. Have a look at this week’s devotion for a reflection of what was shared. You are most welcome to come along next week for Part 2! Join us for Worship, followed by fellowship over a cuppa. We would love to see you! You are also welcome to click on this link to find out what’s happening at school via our newsletter: htps://inewsletter.co/J1WDLx/latest Of course, a printed copy is available in the café area, and I am happy to arrange your own copy if you would like!

Growing Faith at Home

Who is Jesus?’… How would you answer this question? A good man? A teacher? Saviour? People have been mulling over this one for centuries. Jesus’ disciples, who walked and talked with him on a daily basis, were challenged with this same question. Then Jesus asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter spoke up, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:15-16 Have a look at this week’s GFH resource for some ideas to discuss with your friends and family. How would you respond if Jesus asked you, “Who do you say that I am?”

Do You Like to Cook?

From time to time, we have the opportunity to help out families in need of a meal or two. If one of your hobbies is cooking (or if it is something that you don’t mind doing) I would love to hear from you. Feel free to have a chat or you could contact me here and I can give you more information.
