Life In the Spirit

Life In the Spirit

For many of us Christians, living as a child of God is a depressing struggle as we try to become better disciples of Jesus. We mostly feel ashamed and guilty when we take our “spiritual temperature”. Is this what God wants for us?

Pr. Steen Oslen

Update From The Call Committee

The Call Committee has met with Assistant Bishop Stephen Schultz and from this we developed a list of 13 names.  We received profiles for all these and combed through the information.  A short list of six names was compiled and these pastors were contacted. Conversations between three of the pastors and members of the call team are set for the coming week as three are not available for us to call.  Our hope is that this will lead to a call meeting in the near future.  Please keep this team and calling process in all your prayers.

School Snippets

One of the highlights for this week was Chapel on Wednesday, where all the Foundation students were presented with their very own bible, a gift from our Good Shepherd Community (church and school).  Mrs Evie Stevens shared a short message about God’s Word- The Bible. (Have a look at this week’s devotion for her reflection.)  It was a day of celebration. Many students remember receiving their bible in Foundation and an array of students shared their favourite bible verses/stories.  I enjoyed chatting with some Foundation children the following day, asking them about what they read on Wednesday night. (What story did you look at last night?) Here are some of their responses: ‘When God made the world.’ ‘When Jesus was a baby.’ ‘Jesus and the crippled man.’ ‘The lion one.’ (Daniel in the Lion’s den.) When the boy gave the fish to Jesus and then everyone had food. (The boy with loaves and fishes.)  Some were more general… ‘I looked at all the pictures in the book.’ ‘I saw a map’. Some were just eager to share that they already had bibles… ‘I have 8’. ‘I read from my other bible’. It is wonderful to hear children listening to, or reading for themselves, stories about God and his love for them and others. As mentioned before, a day of celebration!

Chapel Invitation

Next week we begin our 3-week Easter focus called ‘Breaking News’. We will begin with Jesus’ arrest and trial.  You are most welcome to join us at 8:50am… Stay for some coffee and connection as we enjoy life together as Good Shepherd Community!

Growing Faith at Home

Dear Church Family,

This week’s GFH resource is entitled ‘Jesus is the resurrection and the life’. It contains some thought-provoking conversation starters. Talking about death can be confronting, but sharing the hope that we have in Jesus and his victory over death is more than comforting, it is the central to our faith!  Why not have a look and chat with your family and the people you connect with? For this week’s Lenten activity, you can create a stained glass cross. Something to put on your window! (See attachment provided.) Have a wonderful week everyone!

Devotions

We give thanks for all those who have contributed to our online devotions this year. Now we are looking for more! If you have one or more of your own that you would like to share, please send them through to the church office via churchenquiries@paravista.org.au
