Living Under Grace

Living Under Grace

We know what we should and shouldn’t do as Christians, but often we fail. We don’t have the power to make ourselves better, so what do we do? Today we will explore how we might live as God’s people, without letting sin rule our lives on the one hand, and without being legalists and living under the law, on the other hand. The Spirit of God enables us to live under grace. That is his gift to us.

Pastor Steen Olsen

Bible Readings: Romans 6:12-23 (NLT)

Good Shepherd – Call to Pastor Greg Fowler – Declined

We received a phone call from Greg Fowler and he has declined the call to Good Shepherd.

Greg went on to say that he has a strong emotional tie to us as he was a Vicar here during his study.  He met with groups and individuals a few times in the last few weeks.  Upon prayer, reflection, and discussion he made the hard decision to decline the call.  Greg thanks us for all the time we have invested in the process and believe that we have all grown through our discussions as we seek the Lord’s will.  He adds: God bless you and His ministry at Good Shepherd.

Please keep Greg and the next step for Good Shepherd in your prayers.

Civil Works at Montague Road Entrance

Beginning Monday 10th July, we have some stormwater repairs being performed at the entrance to our church/school car park on Montague Road. While this work is undertaken, the entrance will be clearly closed to all traffic (using cones and bollards). The exit gate to Hillary Crescent can be used for entry and exit of the car park during this period.

Please use care and travel slowly through the car park while anticipating the possibility of 2-way traffic.

Another Amazing Response

Thank you again for another amazing response for the June food collection supporting the work of Lutheran Care in caring for families struggling in the northern suburbs of Adelaide. There were over 40 bags and boxes crammed full of food that will bring relief to many families as they are distributed during the cold winter months.

KAPS- Recap and Save the Date! Saturday 29th July

We had a great afternoon on Sunday. It was all about service! We heard from guests representing ALWS, Maranatha Health and Stamps for Missions and spent time cleaning and sorting stamps, creating cards, and playing games that made us think!  Julie from ALWS shared a meaningful message during worship and then we shared a meal together.

Our next KAPS event will be held on the Saturday after Week One of next term. It will be a little different. We will begin with worship at 6pm, followed by dinner.  The movie begins at 7pm. For those who are keen, you are invited to an optional sleepover! (Please contact Rachel if you are planning to stay over.) See the flyer for details.  Love to see you!

Community Family Support News

Step Up to Communion

Young people aged around 10 years, together with their parents/ caregivers, are invited to take part in our Step-Up program to prepare for Holy Communion. Taking the approach that parents/ carers are the primary faith developers in their children, Step Up is designed to support parents/carers in preparing their child for Holy Communion.

This course will be offered during the next school term over 4 consecutive Friday nights (11th, 18th, 25th August, and 1st September) with a Sunday communion service to follow.  If you are interested, please contact Georgie here by Friday 4th August. Look forward to hearing from you.

Growing Faith at Home

Today’s GFH title is ‘Welcoming Others’. I’m sure that you have appreciated times in your life where you have been welcomed by someone. It can have a powerful and lasting impact. This week’s resource gives to some suggestions to talk over with your family or small group…  What does it mean to welcome someone? Share a time when you needed some help, and someone was kind to you. How could you, personally, make someone feel welcome on Sunday… or any day for that matter?

 School Snippets

It’s been a big term at Good Shepherd! Our community is a special one. Throughout much change, our core values of Love, Optimism and Creativity have been unwavering. Our focus on sharing the Good News of Jesus is still central to who we are and informs our decision-making on a daily basis. Evie Stevens will be taking a time of scheduled Long Service Leave for the first five weeks of Term Three. We pray that her time away from school routine is a time for some well-deserved relaxation and refreshment.

Please have a read of our newsletter for more details of what we’ve been up to using this link: https://inewsletter.co/J1WDLx/latest Of course, printed copies are available in the café area and Georgie is happy to arrange a copy for you if you would like.

Chapel Invitation

We concluded our term with Chapel this morning. The Stage 4 Lunch time Drama group presented a summary of some of the highlights from the intriguing bible stories we covered throughout the term. Have a look at this week’s devotion for reflection!

Our next School Worship opportunity will be on the first day back for Term Three (Monday 24th July) at 8:50am. As always you are most welcome to attend. (Please note: This will take the place of Wednesday Chapel that week. Our regular Wednesday gatherings will recommence the following week on 2nd August.) Love to see you!
