Making Songs for Saints

Making Songs for Saints

Making Songs for Saints is Robin and Dorothy Mann’s theme for Sunday. They’ve made songs for over 50 years with tunes to sing, words to understand, the story of faith to believe. Join us on Sunday to hear Robin and Dorothy bear witness to how God is using them to place a song on the hearts of others.

Bible Readings: Psalm 98, 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 (GNT)

Churchwide Call to Prayer

Our LCANZ bishops are calling the people of the church to set aside 2023 for a churchwide day of prayer focusing on the unity of the church. This is a significant day as it is just a year from the 2024 Convention of General Synod.

At the in-person sessions of the 2021–23 Convention of General Synod, the General Church Board and College of Bishops were asked to consider possible ways forward in the decades-long ordination debate. The Way Forward project is working to develop a framework whereby the LCANZ could function as one church with two different practices of ordination. It is intended that this proposal will be brought to the 2024 Convention of General Synod, 4–7 October 2024. Please play this video message from LCANZ Bishop Paul Smith which introduces you to the important decision General Synod will make in October 2024, and calls our entire church to pray here: Call to Prayer, 8 October 2023 on Vimeo

 Kenya Report

Thank you, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, for your prayers for my time in Kenya during September. Here I am at Kikumini village, helping locals how to prepare an Oral Bible Story using a storyboard – a series of pictures – to help them memorise the actions for a story. They loved to get up and practice telling the story in their own language.  Then they went around the village, sharing the story with their neighbours – rather courageous!  It was wonderful to see the Gospel going out! – Ian Hutchinson

Equipping Resources

As we are on the cusp of our school holiday break, I thought I’d share something a little different. Grow Ministries provide a range of resources that encourage faith at home. Sometimes people feel a little reluctant to engage in conversations that involve faith, preferring to leave that kind of thing to the ‘experts.’ Here are three resources to help! The ‘Encouraging faith at home’ resource outlines the four keys that underpin Grow resources: Caring Conversations, Devotions, Service and Rituals/ Traditions. There is a ‘Sharing your faith with your children’ resource with ideas to try out. If you would like a copy of the Talk Time cards, I’m happy to share them with you. The last resource gives you some ideas to help you explore the bible with your family. The break from school routine is an ideal time to nurture your faith at home!

School Snippets

We are excited to announce that Evie Stevens will be serving as our new Principal, beginning in 2024.  Evie has developed extensive experience across ELC, Junior Primary, Senior Primary and Middle College years in teaching and learning as well as curriculum leadership positions, which will provide a holistic approach to the strategic oversight for our community. As an existing member of the Senior Leadership Team, Evie understands Good Shepherd’s culture and practices to ensure our core values of Love, Optimism and Creativity are upheld and cherished by everyone in our community. Evie’s faith in God is her foundation. We have a lot to look forward to in 2024!

There was a lot of fun, colour and excitement in our Junior Primary classes this week as they presented their Showcase ‘Seussical Kids’, directed by Bethany McAleer, whom many of you know. It was wonderful to see the children come together and shine on stage! If you would like to find out more of what is happening at school, you are also welcome to click on the link to our newsletter: GSPV News – Term 3 Week 10 (naavi.com)

KAPS – Save the date 29th October!!

We had a lot of fun on Sunday! An afternoon of looking for clues, inside and out! We enjoyed the beautiful weather and finished the afternoon with worship and a meal. Our next KAPS event will be after the school holidays. We are looking forward to some water activities so save the date! Hoping to see you then.

Worship

We had our final worship for the term this morning. Tara Williams shared some of her faith story.  It is encouraging to hear people of varying ages share how God walks with them through the good times and the challenges too! Have a look at the devotion for a link to the interviews we have heard over the last few weeks. Our next School Worship gathering will be on Monday 16th October beginning at our regular time of 8:50am. We would love for you to join us! – Georgie

Devotions

We give thanks for all those who have contributed to our online devotions this year. Now we are looking for more! If you have one or more of your own that you would like to share, please send them through to the church office via churchenquiries@paravista.org.au
