Patience – Galatians 5:22-23

You may have heard Georgie ask, ‘How might our relationships look if we served this kind of fruit up on a platter? She was of course talking about the Fruit of the Spirit, the list of which we find in the Bible in Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
If you are a parent I am sure that you have had many opportunities to practice patience. There are times I find that I have all the patience in the world. I am happy to stop at every stop light, I can wait for 10 minutes for my boys to get into the car. But there are other times that both of these situations increase my heartbeat and impatience is the outcome. God calls us to be patient with one another and to do this in love. The spiritual posture that I begin each day, relying on God to provide this patience, with myself and others is the only way that I can share this ‘fruit’ regularly.
Every day I seek God, through his word and in community with others. I practice this patience with the deep breaths, and with the little prayer, ‘Heavenly Father bring peace to my heart’. My prayer that is as you wait for your children, spouse or even on God to come through that he provides you with the not only patience but the peace that transcends all understanding, that we can only find in Jesus.
