Reformation Sunday – Amazing Grace

Reformation Sunday – Amazing Grace

For a few years in the 1960s my football coach was Jack Oatey. “Keep your eye on the ball!” he said (yelled) over and over again. “No matter who or what is coming at you, remember the objective – to get the ball.”

History has shown that as individuals and as churches it is easy to lose focus. The Bible is full of examples of that. And we know how easy it is for us to allow the many issues we face to distract us from God’s offer of grace to the world through Jesus. Today, as many Christians celebrate The Reformation, I believe God is reminding us again to “fix our eyes on Jesus” and to follow his example of sacrificial love and service.

Pastor Robert Voigt

Bible Readings: Romans 3:22-24, Romans 3:28 (NLT)

Growing Faith at Home

October 31st is a special day on our church calendar. We celebrate the Reformation! What’s that you may ask? It is linked back to just over 500 years ago, when Martin Luther posted 95 statements on the church door (which was a bit like a bulletin board back in the day). It caused quite a reaction! From his study of God’s Word, he discovered that our salvation (through Jesus dying and rising again in payment for our sin) is God’s gift of grace to us, that we receive through faith… It isn’t something that we can earn through good works. That takes so much pressure off us. We don’t have to earn his approval and love… This week’s GFH resource gives you some ideas to discuss with your families and small groups. Happy Reformation Day everyone!

School Snippets

On Thursday night our Year 2 students enjoyed a pizza tea together before spending the night in tents which were set up in the school gym. This is part of a progressive camping experience for our young people. Camping overnight in a familiar environment is a great ‘stepping- stone’ in children’s development before they enjoy camping experiences away from the school when they reach Year 3. Today (Friday) is World Teachers’ Day. We acknowledge and celebrate all the love, care and dedication that our wonderful teachers and staff members invest in our students and families. We are truly blessed here at Good Shepherd. If you get to see any of our staff (or you might know of other teachers or school staff members working in other schools) you might like to check in with them and see how they are going. For more of what we’ve been up to, please click on this link for the school newsletter: https://inewsletter.co/J1WDLx/latest Of course, a printed copy is available in the café area and I am happy to arrange your own copy if you would like!

Wednesday Worship

Eve (Youth worker from Endeavour) joined us for Worship on Wednesday. She reminded us about what we can do with our worries and anxieties… ‘When in a fix… Philippians 4:6!’ Please read this week’s devotion for a reflection of what was shared. Next week we begin our four-week Christmas theme. We would love for you to join us as we walk together as a Good Shepherd community towards Christmas. Usual starting time of 8:50am… Hope to see you there!

Georgie
