Run, Shepherds, Run

As we think about 2021, what is holding you back? What is slowing you down? How is God urging you forward on your run?
Scripture: Luke 2:15-21
February Week 1, 2021
Pastor Reid Matthias
(The shepherds) hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the manger. After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.) ~Luke 2:16-18
I watched Forrest Gump a little while ago and one of my favourite scenes is when Forrest, as a little boy, is chased mercilessly by a group of bullies. Little Forrest is bound by leg braces because of a deformity, but when he is chased a miracle occurs and he breaks free from that which holds him back.
So it is with the Christmas shepherds. Held back by the braces of the mundane, the Shepherds are told that the Saviour has been born. And the thing they’d been waiting for, hoping for, desperate for miraculously occurs in the announcement by the angels.
I hope that you can feel the braces of the mundane break free as you start out 2021 running. Run, people, run!
