The wonder of Rest

The wonder of Rest

Rest is a key to holistic and joyful living. We think we can keep going and going, harder and harder, trying to achieve more and more.

But without rest, you blow up or burn out. You rest to be invigorated, restored, revitalized, and renewed. Not just physically but spiritually, emotionally, relationally, and mentally. This refuels and refires you for the privilege of receiving from and relating to others, contributing to their well-being out of your own sense of being well.

When Jesus invited us to come to him and rest, he wasn’t instigating a go-slow policy or saying we need a snooze. Not that there’s anything wrong with either of those. He was inviting us to rest from those attitudes, activities, and performance-based sources of identity that rob us of life in him.

Spiritual rest is about life in Jesus: celebrating who he is and what he has done; living in his accomplishments and rejoicing in his declaration “It is finished.”

Civil Works at Montague Road Entrance Update

Beginning Tuesday 11th July, we have some stormwater repairs being performed at the entrance to our church/school car park on Montague Road. While this work is undertaken, the entrance will be clearly closed to all traffic (using cones and bollards). The exit gate to Hillary Crescent can be used for entry and exit of the car park during this period.

We have been informed the works will be complete before the end of week.

Please use care and travel slowly through the car park while anticipating the possibility of 2-way traffic.

Growing Faith at Home

The bible text that is referenced in this week’s GFH resource is the one we will be exploring on Sunday. Pastor Peter will share a message on the ‘Wonder of Rest’. We often get ‘worn out’, as we compete with the world and try to build our self-worth based on our own achievements. And then we worry, because it feels like the bar is always getting higher! Jesus invites us to bring our worries to him… We weren’t created to ‘do life’ without him! Have a look at this week’s resource for discussion points and ways to serve others!

Step Up to Communion

Young people aged around 10 years, together with their parents/ caregivers, are invited to take part in our Step-Up program to prepare for Holy Communion. Taking the approach that parents/ carers are the primary faith developers in their children, Step Up is designed to support parents/carers in preparing their child for Holy Communion.

This course will be offered during the next school term over 4 consecutive Friday nights (11th, 18th, 25th August and 1st September) with a Sunday communion service to follow.  If you are interested, please contact Georgie here by Friday 4th August. Look forward to hearing from you.
