Where is the Wind Blowing?

Where is the Wind Blowing?

Earlier this week, my family watched and listened to the windows of our house rattle and shake as the wind whipped from all directions. The wind is an awesome power, one that is often forgotten about. With the sun, we can feel the heat and we know its source, but with the wind, we have a little understanding of how heat and cooling create the wind – but where does it start? Where does it finish? Where does it go when it stops?

This, in a nutshell, is how Jesus responds to Nicodemus, a Pharisee and leader of the Jews. “Do not be amazed that you must be born again.”

There is a true power in being born again through water and the Spirit. In Lutheran circles, we don’t often talk about born againedness, as we often leave that to the Pentecostals (much to our detriment). But what does it actually mean? Do we actually understand the power of rebirth into Christ and the Spirit’s push into the Kingdom of God?

As you read through the oft quoted passage from John 3, notice especially verses 3 and 5. Jesus impresses upon Nicodemus the results and the benefits of being born again, of baptism and the power of God through his son.

Don’t be afraid if someone asks you this week if you are ‘born again.’ Even if you didn’t have a rapturous experience and burning in your heart at your baptism, know that Christ the Lord has given you new birth through his death and now you are raised a new creation.

Request for Lift to 8:45am Services

Iris is a senior blind lady living independently at Gilles Plains.  Over recent years she has been using a walker, and still uses it at home.  She can use her walker getting to a car, and then would need some help getting in and out. On arriving at Good Shepherd, she would then use an on-site wheelchair.  She is seeking a lift to our 8:45am services.  It would not have to be every week, but it would be helpful if she could attend the first service of the month for Holy Communion. If you can help out, please contact the Church Office.

Jesus “Super Signs” in John – 7+1 Miracles

John records just seven of Jesus’ miracles – or “signs”. Over four weeks we’ll look at each of them. What do these signs tell us about Jesus?  How did they impact people who witnessed them?  How did they fulfil the Old Testament Scriptures?  And how do they point to Jesus’ resurrection…and our life in Christ?  Come and share in the joy of life in the Word.

Four Wednesday evening workshops with Pr Rolly, starting June 9th.

Please register via the Church Office: 8263 5087  Or: churchenquiries@paravista.org.au

Grow Team

On Sunday the Grow Team were introduced to the congregation.  This was recorded and is available for viewing on Good Shepherd’s podcast.  Please come and chat to one of us about what we’ve been discussing at the Grow Ministries’ coaching sessions.

Our vision is “A community which intentionally develops intergenerational relationships to grow faith in Jesus and build His Kingdom here and now.”

We are excited about where God will lead us on this journey and beyond.

Family Support Coordinator News from Georgie

Dear Church Family,

CLW 2021
Are you in Years 7-12 and looking for something to do in the next school holidays? Why not join other young people from the metro region for 5 days of fun and connection at this year’s Metro CLW camp at Normanville! There is a discount code available for Good Shepherd Church Members (this is available for camp leaders too!) Just ask at the church office: churchenquiries@paravista.org.au or ask Georgie: georgie.schuster@paravista.org.au

Little Lambs
Thank you for your boxes! We had fun this morning learning about Joshua and the wall of Jericho. Why not join us if you have a little time on Friday mornings, and a child or grandchild aged 0-5years of age. Or perhaps you might like to come along and serve a cuppa (to the grown-ups) and have a chat. Either way, we would love to see you!

GFH
This Sunday is Trinity Sunday!
We believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Joanne Marxhausen’s book ‘A picture of God- 3 in 1’ is a child-friendly story that, well, ‘illustrates’ this concept. I can organise for you to borrow this book if you like! Have a look at this week’s GFH resource for ideas to use with your family at home.

Kids’ Zone … The Village!
Have you been wondering what happens in the front right corner of the church on Sundays? ‘The Kids’ Zone’ is an area that continues to evolve. It is an area with some activities, colouring sheets that link in with the message, books to read and some toys to play with. As the children colour/construct/play they are listening… and often have something to contribute when questions are posed to the congregation! They are there to join in with prayer, or sometimes hop up and help with the message itself! They are there to dance and praise God in their uninhibited ways…

As mentioned, the area continues to evolve – we are renaming it ‘The Village’. We would love for mums, dads, and grandparents, to join your children in this space and be there with them, to engage with their thoughts and questions, and if you are up for it, take a leaf out of their page and dance! This offer is open to anyone who is young at heart!

Of course, for kids who prefer to stay in their seats with mum and dad, we have activity folders. Many thanks to our volunteer who cleans the pencils and folders weekly!

The folders contain things like a colouring sheet that links with the message, a maze or word find and a Worship Notes page to keep track of the service. There is also a blank page for creative minds to use as they desire. Some of these inspirational messages have ended up being displayed and been a source of encouragement to others! The folders are there to be used – why not collect one as you come into church? There is a box located near the Worship Host’s area near the sound desk, or just ask a Worship Host! Kathy Liebig and I will talk more about this on Sunday!

God bless each one of you!

Have a wonderful week, Church!
Georgie
